He Wanted Me As His Second Mate But I’m The Alpha King’s Luna Chapter 07
The Alpha King’s Cold Shoulder
Alpha King Elian has eyes and ears in every pack. Nothing beyond the Moon Palace stays hidden for long.
He never says a word. But for days, his face is carved from stone, and—for the first time since he claimed me—he sleeps alone in the war room at the far end of the palace.
When he does come to my den, he plays with our heir pup for a while, barely looks at me, then pads back out without a word.
I’m not the softest she-wolf in the realm, but even I have to admit—an angry Alpha looks damn good.
“My Alpha, are you angry with your Luna?”
His mouth twists into something that isn’t a smile.
“Does the Luna Queen have nothing at all she wants to tell her Alpha King?”
Uh oh. He just called himself the Alpha King — not Elian. He’s shut down our mindlink too. This is bad.
I slip into the act without missing a beat. Eyes wet, chin tilted just so, voice soft and small.
“I was promised to him, and you’ve always known that. But I ended it long before I ever set paw in the Moon Palace. He was the one who couldn’t let go, convinced I was still waiting for him.”
” And now look at the mess he’s brought to my doorstep.”
I sniff, small and pitiful.
“My heart holds one male. One. If you want to punish me, punish me. I’ll take whatever you give me.”
I drop my head and let a tear roll.
He watches me for a long beat. Then a low, warm laugh rumbles out of his chest, and his arms scoop me in.
“Selene. You are such a little schemer.”
“That wooden pin took me two moons to carve. He snapped it in half, and you didn’t even bare your teeth?”
His voice dips right against my ear.
“Remember when you slingshotted the young Alpha Prince square in the ass? The scar is still there. You’re paying that debt off for the rest of your life.”
“Punishment is this — you stay in the Moon Palace. You don’t leave my side. Ever again.”
I nod so hard my hair falls loose.
I figure that’s the end of it.
Except the next dawn, Elian personally sends a runner summoning Damon Ashford to a garden banquet at the Moon Palace.
…
At the banquet, Damon sits in the far corner and stares at me like a starving wolf. When I finally meet his eyes, rimmed red, he turns his face away.
Who exactly is this performance for? Now he’s the wounded one?
I glance at Elian beside me. His knuckles are white around the whiskey cup.
Cold sweat trickles down my spine.
“My Alpha. I’m not feeling well. May I go rest?”
Elian takes a slow sip. “Go.”
I’ve barely crossed the garden arch before I hear footsteps behind me. Damon. Trailing me quietly as a shadow.
This male has a death wish.
I whip around, done playing polite.
“Damon Ashford — are you actually insane? Out there, I let it slide because you didn’t know who I was. In here? Under the Alpha King’s own roof? You want your throat ripped out?”
Damon forces up a bitter, broken little smile. His voice is wrecked.
“Selene. Without you, what’s the point of any of it?”
I shut my eyes. My head throbs.
My hand cracks across his face.
“Get out of my sight! Come near me one more time and I will rip your throat out myself and save my Alpha King the trouble!”
His cheek blooms red. He doesn’t so much as blink. Instead — he drops to his knees on the stone.
“I knew you still cared. I’ve watched you all night — you flinch when he looks at you. You’re not loved here. So —”
“Run away with me. I’ll surrender the Ashford heir title. I’ll write Vera her rejection letter tonight. You and me — anywhere. Just say yes.”
