He Was Reborn To Claim Me But I’m Already Married Chapter 13

When she saw Evelyn freeze in shock, her tone softened.

“Adrian comes from a good family, he’s handsome, and you’ve known him your whole life. What’s not to like?”

“But I don’t love him,” Evelyn burst out, tears streaming down her face. “I love someone else.”

Mother’s face turned grim. I watched in silence.

Then I asked her a question.

“Mother, do you love Evelyn?”

“Of course.” She didn’t understand why I was asking.

I asked again, “Then do you love me?”

“Of course. You and Evelyn are both my daughters,” Mother said without hesitation.

My eyes burned.

I had always thought she didn’t love me as much.

Because Evelyn had been frail as a child, after giving birth to me, Mother hadn’t had the energy to care for two children.

So she had sent me to live with Grandmother in Newport.

Grandmother adored me.

Of all her grandchildren, I was her favorite.

It wasn’t until I was older that I learned this was tied to her guilt over my mother.

When Mother was young, she hadn’t been allowed to marry the man she loved. Grandmother had forced her to marry my father instead.

From then on, Mother resented her.

After the wedding, she never once went to Newport to visit.

Grandmother regretted it deeply.

She said that if she had known how it would turn out, she never would have forced her.

Every night, Grandmother would say the same thing, wishing she could go back and let Mother choose for herself.

But Mother had never known, and Grandmother never had the chance to say it.

I told Mother everything.

The words struck her like a physical blow. Looking at Evelyn, she seemed to see her younger self.

All at once, Mother came to her senses. Clutching her chest, she burst into tears.

“I almost did the same thing to Evelyn…”

In my previous life, after Evelyn faked her death, Mother had cried even more bitterly, living the rest of her life in endless regret.

I just didn’t want everyone to start regretting things only after it was too late.
