His Lesson Killed My Mother Now He Will Pay Chapter 20
When the service ended, I came down the church steps carrying my mother’s portrait. Graham moved toward me, the lilies in his hands tattered by the wind.
“I spoke to a lawyer. A hurricane is considered a force majeure event. Legally, there may not be a direct causal link between the canceled van and Elena’s death. Are you planning to bring in expert testimony?”
Aisha said coolly, “Trying to minimize punitive damages already?”
His face went pale. “I’ll accept whatever responsibility the court assigns.”
I looked at him.
“If the experts say there was no direct link, will that help you sleep at night?”
I took the cancellation confirmation from the evacuation company out of my bag and shoved it into his hand.
“You gave the order. You didn’t answer the phone. You handed over the recording. How the law defines causation doesn’t change a thing for me.”
His eyes reddened instantly.
“Nora, give me a chance to make it up to you. I’ll set up a trust—a house, shares, anything you want—”
I looked at him and said, each word a stone:
“I want my mother back.”
