His Lesson Killed My Mother Now He Will Pay Chapter 61

Even after the case ended, Graham’s monthly transfers kept arriving on schedule.

The memo line was still blank.

He did not send an explanation after refusing to testify for Sloane.

He did not use his appearance in court as an excuse to ask for a meeting.

After Aisha finished reconciling the fund accounts, she asked, “Do you want to notify him of the ruling?”

“It’s a public judgment. He’ll see it.”

“Okay.”

She shut her laptop and set a newly cut key on my desk.

It was for the archive room at the second service center.

“You decide who keeps this one.”

I picked it up, then placed it in her palm.

“Weekend duty is yours.”

Aisha smiled. “Is that an invitation or a staffing assignment?”

“Both.”

She didn’t press for more. She just put the key away.

That evening, we went to the cemetery together.

I did not bring the judgment.

I did not tell my mother about winning.

At her grave, I left only a small lemon bar and a bouquet of gardenias.

“The system is back,” I said. “Under its original name.”

The wind moved across the grass.

I thought of the storm box, once covered in labels—*dependency, trauma projection, object fixation*.

Later, I had peeled every one of them off.

The box had not lost its meaning because of that.

It had simply become my mother’s again.

When we left, Aisha walked beside me.

She did not ask if I had found peace.

Some things do not need to be forgiven in order to move forward.
