His Number Changed So I Changed My Life Chapter 21

Parker still found out about the pregnancy and the termination.

After Madison showed up at my apartment, I moved into a building with a doorman. Visitors needed resident confirmation and ID to get past the lobby.

So Parker could only wait for me outside.

He was tall, and even with a baseball cap and a mask, people still gave him a second glance.

“Lottie.”

His voice was hoarse.

He looked at my stomach, and his eyes reddened almost instantly.

“How could you make that decision by yourself? That was my child, too.”

By the end, his voice was shaking.

Tears streamed down his face.

“I regret it. Lottie, I regret everything. Can we please start over?”

I looked at him and thought of a sunny afternoon on our college campus.

He had stood before me holding a bouquet of flowers, so nervous his eyes were red.

Back then, Parker was young, and he hadn’t yet hurt the people who loved him.

I thought I had found the safest partner in the world.

But people change.

“Parker, do you want to know something?” I said. “I can see how many people a person has had sex with.”

“When we met, the number above your head was 0.”

“After we got together, it became 1.”

“Three months ago, it became 2.”

I paused.

“Now, it’s 3.”

I wasn’t surprised.
