His Wedding My Exit Chapter 06

His Wedding My Exit Chapter 06

When I got to my parents’ house, my mom was in the kitchen making soup. Seeing me come in with my suitcase, she asked only one thing. “Not getting married anymore?”

“Yeah.”

“Thought it through?”

“Thought it through.”

She nodded. “Wash your hands. The soup is almost ready.” Partway through dinner, my dad asked quietly, “Did he bully you?”

I shook my head. “Not that kind of bullying.” He didn’t push.

He just said, “If you feel like you can’t live with him, then don’t.”

The next day, my boss at work messaged me. The original manager for the Dallas expansion had suddenly backed out, and they needed someone to oversee the six-month Southwest regional launch.

I’d turned this project down twice before. The first time was because I had to shoot my wedding photos.

The second time was because the wedding date was closing in. My boss asked: “Can you leave the day after tomorrow?”

I replied: “Yes.” The day the movers came to our apartment, Hayden wasn’t there.

My things were cleared out fast. Before I left, I set those sixty save-the-date cards in a neat stack on the dining table.

“Hayden Calderon’s Wedding Weekend” was fine exactly as it was.

Because from the very start, there had never been any intention of including my name. That afternoon, I went to pick up my altered wedding dress. The camellia was gone. The train was cut to the ankle. What had been a grand, expensive wedding gown was now a simple white dress.

The designer looked pained. “You’re really having it cut? It cost so much.”

I looked at myself in the mirror. “It looks better than before.” At least this time.

It just looked like me. That night, Hayden called over a dozen times. I didn’t pick up once. Finally, he sent a message: “Freya, what is the meaning of emptying out the apartment?”

I replied: “Exactly what it looks like.” Then I blocked him.
