I Died The Day My Husband’s Girlfriend Did A Magic Trick. Chapter 10
He stared at the ring, his Adam’s apple bobbing.
His entire body swayed, and he caught himself on the edge of the autopsy table.
He reached out to touch the ring, but the moment his finger brushed the cold metal, he jerked his hand back.
“Impossible…”
His voice was laced with panic.
“This is fake. It has to be a silicone prop.”
He suddenly spun around and shouted into the empty morgue, “Meredith, come out!”
“You think you can fool me with a fake hand?”
The only answer was the low hum of the ventilation system.
I floated above him, looking at him coldly.
The detective stepped forward and handed him another photo.
“We found scratch marks in the seams of the magic box.”
“She clawed desperately at the walls from inside. All her fingernails were broken.”
Caius lowered his head and looked at the photo.
It showed broken, bloody fingernails against scratched metal.
His face slowly turned white.
When I was trapped inside the box, it had shaken a few times.
Josephine had laughed then and said I was cooperating perfectly.
So those few movements had been my final, desperate cries for help.
Caius suddenly bent over and vomited into a nearby trash can.
By the end, tears and mucus streamed down his face.
Only then did he finally understand.
Meredith really was dead.
