I Let Her Ruin Herself Chapter 08

Mom grabbed my arm and pulled me out of the ER.

She didn’t speak until we were inside the elevator.

“We treated the Spencers like family. And they act like you’re supposed to be on call to absorb the consequences for their daughter.”

“Don’t go to their house anymore. And don’t ever see Taylor alone.”

“I won’t.”

Taylor never gave Derek’s name. After talking Carol into it, she refused to cooperate any further with the sexual assault investigation. With only a witness statement and her own false accusation on record, the case stalled.

Taylor was applying to performing arts programs. She told her mother that a public criminal investigation would hurt her spring auditions. More than that, she didn’t want Derek going to prison.

In my last life, I had always believed Derek was just obsessively pursuing Taylor.

He often waited for her outside the school gates. He’d blow past teachers trying to stop him, stride right into our classroom, and plant a sugary coffee on her desk.

He warned off any boy who got too close, saying she belonged to him.

When his friends saw Taylor in the cafeteria, they would deliberately call her “Mrs. Miller.”
