I Signed Away Eight Million To Leave Him Chapter 09
After seeing Eli again, my life slowly began to find its rhythm.
But Graham’s messages started coming more and more often.
At first, he just asked where I was living and when I was coming back to Palm Beach.
I didn’t answer.
Then he sent a photo of himself and Sloane at a dinner.
“She only wore the sapphires to piss Mother off.”
“The proposal was part of it, too.”
“You don’t actually think I wanted to marry her, do you?”
At two in the morning, another text arrived.
“I was just teaching Mother a lesson. Once she understands she can’t plan my life, everything will go back to the way it was.”
I still didn’t respond.
The next morning, there were more than a dozen missed calls on my phone, plus one text that shredded every excuse he had made.
“I know the money wasn’t what you wanted, but humiliating you was the only way I could make Mother understand she couldn’t control me.”
I stared at the sentence for a few seconds, then screenshotted every message, one by one. I saved them to the cloud and exported a backup copy.
So he had never misunderstood.
He knew I didn’t care about the eight million dollars.
And he knew exactly how much those humiliations would hurt me.
