I Sold His Gifts To Leave My Mafia Husband Chapter 12
Matteo froze.
“You getting rid of Bianca was your decision. You giving up the docks was your decision. And whether the Family lets you keep your position is even less of my business.”
I looked straight at him.
“I only want to ask you one thing.”
“The day you cut off Grandma’s care funds, was Bianca with you when you picked out that ruby necklace?”
The color drained from Matteo’s face.
He opened his mouth, but it took him several seconds to form the words.
“Yes. Before the ceasefire was finalized, that gift couldn’t appear on Vitale or Conti formal accounts. I needed an account the adviser wouldn’t check immediately.”
His voice dropped lower and lower.
“I thought I was just borrowing three months of Pearl’s care funds. I thought I’d put it back once the terms were signed. I thought switching her to a cheaper place wouldn’t make any difference.”
“Wouldn’t make any difference?”
I let out a short, bitter laugh.
Matteo took half a step back.
“Grandma lived in that place for three months. She got pneumonia. No one watched her at night. She fell twice. Now, most of the time, she doesn’t even know who I am.”
“And you tell me that made no difference?”
Matteo pulled an unloaded gun from inside his coat and laid it flat in the doorway, the grip turned toward me.
