I Was The Mafia’s Maid Now I’m Their Regret Chapter 13
I stepped out of the classroom and looked up to see someone standing not far away.
It wasn’t Luca. It wasn’t Chloe.
It was Francesca.
A Marino Family guard stood behind her. She looked thinner than before, with tired shadows under her eyes.
When she saw me, she came over at once.
“Cosima.”
She rarely said my name in that tone.
I stopped but didn’t speak.
“How are you doing?”
“I’m fine.”
“Then… could you maybe take some time off and come home? Just once?”
“No.”
“Cosima…”
She was clearly getting anxious.
“We really need you to come home, just once. It’s your home, too.”
“It stopped being my home a long time ago.”
“But we’re your family.”
I lifted my eyes to meet hers.
She earned several thousand dollars a month from her dance company.
The studs in her ears were worth fifty thousand dollars.
The clip in her hair cost another thirty.
Six months ago, two thousand dollars in cash had gone missing from Mom’s safe.
The entire family had stared at me, pressuring me to hand it over. My father had even sent guards to search my room.
Not one person had spoken up for me.
Not her, either.
“Francesca, what are you doing here?”
“Dad contacted the school. That’s how I found out you were here.”
She forced a brittle smile.
“The capos at home keep asking why the Bellandi family acknowledged you first, and why your name was never in the service ledger.”
So that was it.
They hadn’t suddenly realized they were missing a daughter. They just couldn’t keep me hidden outside the service ledger anymore.
“I just wanted to see you,” she said again.
“Mom wanted to come, too, but you know, Nico’s been doing his heir qualification assessment lately…”
She trailed off.
