Italian-American Heiress: The Fiancée He Underestimated Chapter 05

The Signing

The whole room erupts in whispers.

Cami’s smile freezes. Her eyes go wide with shock.

Julian goes stiff. His champagne glass slips out of his hand and shatters on the marble floor.

The signing begins.

I sit at the head of the table. Julian sits across from me, sweating.

Cami stumbles forward with the contract, trying to save the moment. She stutters in her broken Italian.

“Ms. — Ms. Rossi — thank you for your company’s —”

I look up. And in perfect, native Milanese Italian, I cut her off.

“Save it. We are not signing this contract.”

The second Italian comes out of my mouth, Cami looks like she’s been struck by lightning.

Her lips shake. She can’t speak.

I look straight at Julian. No emotion.

“Julian. Weren’t you just saying, right in our honeymoon house, that a successful man is allowed a few extra women?”

“Unfortunately, in my eyes, you’re not just unsuccessful — you don’t even qualify to sit at this table.”

Julian’s face turns paper-white.

He finally understands. Every place he thought was safe — every Italian sentence, every private joke — I heard all of it.

Cami tries to save herself. Waves the contract at me.

“Ms. Rossi — this contract benefits both sides — look at page three —”

I slap the contract onto the table.

“First — three basic grammar errors in the profit calculation. Your side would lose ten percent.”

“Second — the breach clause completely misreads Italian law.”

I stare at Cami. Cold.

“Effective today, your translation firm loses every contract with Rossi Group. Any company under my grandfather will never hire you again.”

“A woman who climbs into a man’s bed to get ahead doesn’t belong at this table.”

Cami’s legs give out. She drops straight to the floor.

Julian panics. He runs to me. His eyes red. He tries to grab my hands.

“Elena — let me explain — I swear I didn’t know you —”

Before his hand touches mine, another hand knocks it away.

A tall man in a black suit steps out from behind Nonno. He takes off his coat and drapes it over my shoulders.

Alexander Sterling.

His eyes cut into Cami like knives.

“Ms. Brooks. Have some self-respect.”
