Kicked Out For My Sister’s Baby I Returned Rich Chapter 08

Trent didn’t answer.

Regina seemed to read the guilt on his face and stepped closer, one pace at a time.

“Did you forget?” she demanded. “You said Thea’s whole life was bills, budgets, and schedules. If you wanted dinner, you had to book it in advance. If you were going out, she had to check the weather. Even buying a cup of coffee had to be worked into the monthly budget.”

She pointed at herself, tears welling in her eyes.

“But I make you happy. When you’re with me, you actually feel alive.”

Trent’s grip on the car keys went suddenly rigid.

He remembered me hunched over the dining table past midnight, working through tax deduction lines and saving the family a small fortune.

He remembered how, before a blizzard hit, everyone else was off at parties while I was the only one on the phone for hours, pushing repair companies to reinforce the roof.

He remembered the time he’d misread a rental car agreement and gotten slapped with a huge damage fee. I had sat on hold with customer service for hours, sorting through emails, checking the terms, and pressing the point until they finally waived the charge.

Back then he had taken all of it for granted.

He got to enjoy the trip.

I handled every problem.

And every so-called boring thing he resented was the very reason his life had always felt so easy, so carefree.

Now I was gone, and a single tax notice had thrown them all into chaos. As for Regina, all she could do was cry, shout, and force him to take a side.

Trent’s eyes slowly reddened.

Regina grabbed his arm again. “You are not going to find her!”

He shoved her off.

“You don’t get it!”

Regina staggered back two steps, staring at him in disbelief.

Trent’s voice came out hoarse. “My accounts, my insurance, my contracts—even which bills had to be paid each month—Thea handled all of it. Without her, I can’t deal with any of this.”

He clenched the car keys tight, as if finally owning up to the ugliest truth of all.

He clenched the car keys tight, as if finally owning up to the ugliest truth of all.

“I… I can’t do this without her.”
