Kill Him Nine Times Chapter 02
I jerked my head up.
The shattered world sealed itself whole.
I was in a lavishly decorated private room at a bar.
A group of young men and women sat in a circle, playing Truth or Dare.
The second loop had begun.
The system was running low on energy; time had only rolled back three months.
Matteo and his friends were drinking and playing games at the bar.
Outside, rain poured down.
Matteo had made a bet with the girl he liked—whether I’d come running with just one phone call.
I hadn’t wanted to come.
But the system said, “How are you supposed to complete your task if you don’t go?”
A current shot through my body.
Soaked from the rain, I showed up at the bar.
The room’s easiest punchline.
That girl curled her lip, refusing to drink the three glasses of hard liquor on the table.
So Matteo told me to drink them for her.
I was silent for a few seconds.
Genevieve leaned against Matteo and said with a smile, “Matteo, looks like your little shadow doesn’t want to drink for me.”
Originally, Matteo was supposed to coldly force me to drink.
Then I’d end up in the ER with alcohol poisoning.
But this time, Matteo suddenly screamed and shot to his feet.
His forehead was slick with sweat.
Terror lingered in his eyes, as if he’d just woken from a nightmare.
Genevieve didn’t understand what was happening.
She asked him in her softest voice, “Matteo, what’s wrong?”
Matteo gasped for breath.
The memory of falling twenty stories still echoed in his bones.
The sound of his skull striking the ground still seemed to ring in his ears.
His head snapped up, and his eyes found mine.
There was fear in his eyes. And fury.
I understood immediately.
If I remembered the last loop, of course he did too.
I smiled at him and cut right to the chase.
“Matteo, can I be your girlfriend?”
