Leaving At Last Chapter 12
“Just the two of us.”
I was about to refuse, but Auden let go of my hand and stepped back.
When he smiled, he flashed a pair of sharp canines.
“Five minutes.”
Briar and I sat in that stairwell again.
“When did you get back?”
“I tried to find you, but your parents wouldn’t tell me where you’d gone.”
“Mm. I told them not to.”
“Are you leaving again?”
“Yes. I’m settling down there.”
“Blair, you’ve changed a lot.”
I smiled at that.
“Finally seem like an adult?”
His face went pale.
“That’s not what I meant.”
“What happened before… I’m sorry.”
I stood up, ready to leave.
“It’s all in the past.”
“If anything, I should thank you.”
“If I hadn’t learned everything I did trying to keep up with you,”
“I might not have been able to save my boyfriend a year ago.”
When I first met Auden, his heart had suddenly stopped.
I performed CPR on him, and that was the beginning of everything.
Briar opened his mouth, but no words came out.
The next day, Talia found out I was back and rushed over to my house.
“Blair!”
I was eating breakfast. I looked up and paused when I saw her.
She had lost a lot of weight and looked very different.
“You…”
Her eyes were red, and she quickly cut me off.
“Just listen to me first.”
