Make Them Regret It Chapter 15
“Blythe, no!”
My father rushed up the steps and stood between me and Isabella.
“The Core has been inside her for a month. It’s already fused with her body. If you take it out now, she’ll die.”
I looked at him.
“When you took mine, no one asked if I might die.”
“You said anesthesia was not an option because it would affect the Core’s viability.”
“Don’t use it today, either.”
My father’s lips trembled, but he couldn’t form a word.
The legal adviser was silent for a long moment before finally nodding.
“The Core belonged to Blythe in the first place. It was taken by force. It will be returned.”
I did not watch the extraction.
I stood on the steps with my back to Isabella and listened as her screams rose, growing higher and higher, until all that remained was a raw, hoarse rasp.
Just like me, that night.
Once the Core was removed, the adviser placed it in my palm.
It was still warm from her body, but I knew it. It had grown inside me for twenty years.
But it had been gone too long. It had lived inside someone else. Putting it back would not be easy.
