Make Them Regret It Chapter 26

The day I left Romano Manor, the weather was beautiful.

My father was waiting for me at the door.

In his hands was an old cloak I had worn as a child. My mother had sewn it herself, and a small rose was embroidered on the cuff.

“Blythe.” He held it out to me. “It will be cold on the road.”

I glanced at it but didn’t take it.

“You keep it, Father.”

“Mother made it. Keep it with you while you watch over her.”

My father’s hand slowly dropped to his side.

He didn’t say anything else. He just stood there and looked at me.

I gave him the slightest nod.

It was the last time I would acknowledge him as my father.

Then I turned and walked toward the gates.

When I reached them, I took a piece of chocolate from my pocket.

It was the other half of the piece Gia had left behind. My older brother had given it to me.

I put it in my mouth.

It was very sweet.

So sweet that tears instantly filled my eyes.

I remembered what Gia had said that night.

“Auntie, eat something sweet. Then it won’t hurt anymore.”
