My Boss Made Me Sext Her Billionaire Fiancé Chapter 04

Fifty Grand and a Cracker

Nina wipes her fake tears and smiles like a saint.

“It’s okay, Lindy. Just don’t do it again.”

Then she tugs Xander’s sleeve, all soft and sweet.

“Don’t be mad, babe. Lindy didn’t mean it. Her family’s just — you know. Struggling.”

Xander doesn’t say a word. But I feel his eyes on me. Cold. Disgusted.

The whispers pick up again.

“Nina’s such a sweetheart. I’d have fired her on the spot.”

“Let it go. It’s Xander’s welcome dinner. Don’t ruin it.”

Nina beams at everyone like a good little angel.

Five minutes later, the game picks back up. Truth or Dare, adult edition. Round two.

Guess who gets picked for Dare?

Yeah. Me.

And guess who’s holding the “King” card this round?

Xander.

He’s been quiet all night. But now his mouth curls into this lazy, mean little smile as he looks at me.

“For the dare…” He drags it out. “Pick a guy at this table. Feed him something. No hands.”

Dead silence.

Are you freaking kidding me.

It’s a hit job. Everyone knows it. Nobody says a word.

I don’t know anyone here. Nobody volunteers. I just stand there, frozen, cheeks burning.

Then a guy stands up. Slicked hair. Wet grin.

“I’ll help her out.”

His eyes crawl over me like a bug. My skin literally goes cold.

Hunter Cole. That’s the name I catch. Nina’s cousin’s friend or something. Whatever. He grabs a long cracker, sticks one end between his teeth, and leans in.

Closer.

Closer.

His breath hits my face. Whiskey and cologne.

Oh hell no.

My hands shake at my sides. I’m about to shove him when Nina finally sings out:

“Okaaay, that’s enough! Don’t be too rough on her.”

Xander shrugs. Smiles. Ends it.

Everyone else laughs it off and moves on like nothing happened.

I drive Nina home after dinner in silence.

She doesn’t say thank you. Doesn’t say sorry. She just taps her phone, wires me fifty grand, and disappears into her mansion without looking back.

Like fifty grand is Monopoly money to her.

I sit in the driver’s seat, staring at my phone screen. My hands still shaking.

Fifty thousand dollars.

Grandma’s meds. Six months, easy. Maybe part of the surgery deposit.

I close my eyes. Pork chops. I’ll buy Grandma pork chops tomorrow. She loves pork chops.

Then my burner buzzes. Xander. To “Nina.”

“Got him back for you, baby. Don’t be sad, okay?”

“Bunny got dirty. I’ll get you a new one.”

I stare at the screen. My throat closes up.

He thinks he’s defending Nina.

He was punishing me for her.

I lock the phone and press it to my forehead.
