My Boyfriend’s Childhood Sweetheart Set Me Up As An Escort Chapter 06
Commissioner
It takes Reeves forty minutes.
Forty minutes to pull the real arrest records, cross-reference the booking photos, and run the image from Sadie’s stream through facial recognition.
He comes back into his office looking like he swallowed glass.
“Commissioner. The woman in those photos isn’t you.”
“It’s not even close. The bone structure is wrong. Hair color’s been altered digitally.”
“The arrest record is real—but the name’s been changed. The original booking belongs to a Sadie Mercer.”
I lean back in my chair.
“Say that again.”
“Sadie Mercer. Arrested November 14th. Solicitation charge. She made bail the next morning.”
“Someone altered the record. Swapped her name for yours. And then doctored the photos to match.”
I close my eyes.
The person Vice actually arrested last month. That was her.
That’s why the citation had a real seal on it.
To bury her own arrest record, and bury me at the same time, she swapped her name for mine and built the whole story from scratch.
“Captain. I need you to do something for me.”
“Yes, ma’am.”
“I want a squad car at the Griffin residence. Now.”
“And I want everything—the original records, the altered ones, the digital forensics—packaged and ready for the DA by morning.”
Reeves nods. Reaches for his phone.
Then he pauses. Looks at me.
“Commissioner. Are you okay?”
I straighten my collar. Smooth down my coat.
“I’m fine, Captain. Let’s go.”
Twenty minutes later, we pull up to the Griffin house.
The party is still going. Sadie’s stream is still live.
She’s inside, holding court. Telling everyone how I ran off crying. How I couldn’t face the truth.
The comments are eating it up.
Then the doorbell rings.
Reeves steps through first. Badge out.
I walk in behind him.
The room goes dead silent.
Sadie’s phone nearly drops out of her hand. She stares at Reeves. Then at me.
Then at the badge.
“C-Captain? What are you—”
Reeves doesn’t smile.
“Ma’am. I’m Captain Reeves. This is Commissioner Erin Hart.”
“I’m here regarding fraudulent documents, criminal defamation, and identity theft.”
The word lands like a bomb.
Commissioner.
Every drop of color drains out of Sadie’s face.
Shane steps forward. Voice cracking.
“Captain, that’s— there must be some mistake. She’s just a paper-pusher; she told me herself—”
I cut him off. My voice is ice.
“I lied about my job, Shane. Not about who I am.”
“Unlike some people in this room.”
Reeves holds up the forensic report. Clear plastic sleeve. Official seal.
“The arrest record Ms. Mercer presented tonight is fraudulent. The original booking belongs to her. She was arrested for solicitation last month and altered the documents to frame Commissioner Hart.”
“The photos have been digitally manipulated. Our lab confirmed it twenty minutes ago.”
Sadie’s whole body starts to shake.
She looks at her phone. The live-stream is still running.
Thousands of people just heard every word.
The comments explode:
“WAIT WHAT”
“THE STREAMER WAS THE ONE ARRESTED??”
“Oh my god she framed her”
“Commissioner?? She’s a COMMISSIONER??”
“Sadie, you’re done 💀💀💀”
Sadie scrambles. Tries to end the stream. Her hands are shaking too hard.
Shane staggers back. His face is gray.
“Sadie… what the hell? You told me your cousin—”
“There is no cousin, Mr. Griffin,” Reeves says flatly. “There never was.”
Shane’s mother grips the arm of the couch. Her husband won’t look at anyone.
Reeves turns to Sadie.
“Sadie Mercer. You’re under arrest for criminal defamation, identity theft, and filing a fraudulent report. You have the right to remain silent.”
She breaks. Drops to her knees. Sobbing.
“Please—I didn’t mean it—I was just trying to—”
“Save it for your lawyer,” Reeves says.
He nods to the officers behind him. They step forward. Cuffs out.
I watch them put her in the car.
Then I turn to Shane.
He’s standing in the middle of his parents’ living room. Pale. Shaking.
“Erin—”
“Don’t.”
My voice is quiet. Final.
“You had a choice tonight. You made it.”
“We’re done.”
I turn and walk out.
This time, I don’t stop at the threshold.
