My Family Regret When They Lose Me Chapter 08
A few days later, Marco realized that without me, the whole house fell apart.
Sofia couldn’t cook. She managed to burn oatmeal, and the kitchen smelled scorched for days.
The floors were dirty, dishes piled up in the sink, and Chloe’s laundry sat damp in the hamper.
On top of that, because I had quit so suddenly, the work I used to handle at the company was in chaos.
Marco had meetings all day and had to deal with the board. Meanwhile, his phone kept lighting up with calls from Chloe’s preschool teacher, saying no one had picked her up on time for three days straight.
Sofia came by the house every day, but she either broke a cup or misplaced Chloe’s water bottle.
Chloe had three screaming fights with her.
The third time, Chloe broke down crying and shouted, “I don’t want you anymore! I want Mommy!”
She flung off Sofia’s hand and ran for the door, only to slip in the mud outside. She smashed her forehead against the steps.
That night, she came down with a high fever.
Sofia, exhausted, finally snapped at Marco.
“I’m trying my best, but Chloe doesn’t appreciate it. She only wants her mother.”
“I’ve done so much, and you don’t even see it. All you care about is your daughter.”
“I’m sick of this. I need to be alone.”
With that, she slammed the door and left.
