My Family Stole My Run I Returned A Leader Chapter 28
The hearing was scheduled for a week later.
I attended by remote link from the project center’s conference room.
Stefan sat on the other side of the screen.
He was clean-shaven and wearing his old warrior academy uniform.
The cuffs were worn.
The hearing officer first displayed the messages sent from all the unfamiliar numbers.
Stefan didn’t deny any of them.
“They were all from me.”
“Every time she blocked me, I knew what it meant.”
“I was the one who refused to accept it.”
He pushed a document onto the table.
“The warrior academy terminated my trainee status last month.”
“I missed training repeatedly and failed the final disciplinary review.”
“That wasn’t caused by Paloma. I’m the one who gave up on my responsibilities.”
Then he lifted the old metal tin from beside his chair.
Inside were the fire-scorched scraps of letters, along with the note brought back from Gray Valley.
“I kept using these as an excuse.”
“I thought that because she had kept my letters, she should have to remember that I’d once treated her well.”
“But treating her well once doesn’t erase what I did later.”
He looked up at the screen.
“Paloma, I went back to Tide Coast afterward.”
