My Fiancé Betrayed The Wrong Mafia Heiress Chapter 06
The Evidence
By nine the next morning, I am sitting across from Luca in a private room above the café.
I place my phone on the table between us.
“I need everything you have.”
Luca does not touch it immediately.
“Everything about Ethan and Vanessa,” I continue. “The fake pregnancy. The agreement between the Vale and Carter families. And whatever Daniel left behind.”
His expression sharpens at Daniel’s name.
“You heard that part of the recording.”
“Yes.”
I slide the phone toward him.
“I want to know why Ethan is afraid of his dead brother.”
Luca picks it up.
“What are you planning to do?”
“Can you get the evidence or not?”
“I already have most of it.”
I look at him.
“How long have you been investigating my family?”
“Long enough to know they are not your family.”
The words hit hard, but I do not let him see it.
“My wedding is in two days.”
“I know.”
“I need everything before then.”
Luca studies my face for a moment.
Then he nods.
“You’ll have it.”
For the next day and a half, I do exactly what everyone expects.
I attend my final dress fitting.
I approve the flowers.
I sit beside my mother while she reviews the reception menu and complains that I look tired.
When Vanessa calls to ask whether I still want her as my maid of honor, I tell her yes.
Her relief is almost insulting.
Ethan barely looks at me. He seems convinced that his threats worked, that the baby and my fear of public humiliation have forced me back into place.
I let him believe it.
The night before the wedding, Luca comes to see me.
He places a small black drive in my palm.
“That’s everything.”
I plug it into my laptop.
The first folder contains photographs, hotel records, and audio files documenting Ethan and Vanessa’s affair. It did not begin five years ago, as my mother claimed.
It started before Daniel died.
The second folder contains the original laboratory record from the Vale clinic, the altered pregnancy report, and payment records connecting the doctor to a private Vale family account.
My parents did not simply know the pregnancy was fake.
They paid for the lie.
The third folder contains emails and financial documents showing why the two families need the marriage. The Vale empire is drowning in debt. The Carters have the political and legal connections to keep it alive. Ethan needs Vale money, donors, and a respectable wife to support his career.
I am not a daughter or a fiancée to any of them.
I am part of the contract.
Then I open the folder marked DANIEL CARTER.
A photograph of Vanessa’s late husband fills the screen.
He looks enough like Ethan to make my stomach twist.
“What happened to him?” I ask.
Luca stands beside me, his expression unreadable.
“Daniel discovered that members of his family were involved in bribery and illegal financial deals. A reporter found evidence against them and started asking questions.”
I scroll through police reports, bank transfers, and photographs from the case.
“The Carters arranged for Daniel to drive after he had been drinking,” Luca continues. “They sent him down the same route as the reporter. Daniel hit him, and the reporter died.”
My hand freezes over the keyboard.
“They used Daniel to kill him?”
“Then both families forced Daniel to take sole responsibility and remain silent.”
“Why would he agree?”
“Because they threatened Vanessa and their child.”
Of course, they used the person he loved most.
That is what these people do.
Luca opens an audio file. Ethan’s father speaks first. My father answers him. My mother’s voice follows.
They tell Daniel what he must say to the police.
They remind him that Vanessa and his son depend on them.
Then Ethan tells his brother to stop fighting and protect the family.
I close the file.
“What happened after that?”
“Daniel began collecting evidence against them,” Luca says. “Before he could release it, he died in another car crash.”
I open the photographs.
Daniel’s car is crushed against a barrier. Another image shows a severed brake line.
The official report calls it an accident.
It was not.
My fingers tighten around the edge of the laptop.
“Did Ethan know they were going to kill him?”
“I can’t prove that,” Luca says. “But he knew Daniel had evidence, and he helped his father keep him quiet.”
I remove the drive.
I have heard enough lies in private.
The truth deserves an audience.
Luca closes the laptop.
“If you want to leave, a car is waiting downstairs. You can disappear before sunrise. No one will force you to walk into that wedding.”
I close my fingers around the drive.
“They spent years arranging this marriage. They bribed the doctor. They lied about a child. They buried Daniel’s death. They did all of it because they were certain I would obey.”
“You don’t have to prove anything to them.”
“I’m not going to.”
I look up at him.
“I’m going to expose them.”
Something dark and approving flashes in Luca’s eyes.
“So the wedding continues?”
“Yes.”
I slip the drive into a hidden pocket in my garment bag.
“They worked very hard to plan my wedding.”
For the first time since the call, I smile.
“I wouldn’t miss it.”
Luca is silent for a moment.
Then he says, “I’ll be there.”
