My Fiancé Betrayed The Wrong Mafia Heiress Chapter 08

I Will Not Marry Him

The wedding hall falls silent as I walk down the aisle.

My father keeps my hand tucked in the crook of his arm, smiling at the guests as if he has never lied to me.

Ethan waits beneath the flowers in a black tuxedo.

Vanessa stands behind him in ivory.

His eyes go to her before they come to me.

When my father places my hand in Ethan’s, Ethan leans closer.

“Behave,” he whispers.

I smile.

The officiant begins the ceremony.

He speaks about love, loyalty, and the promise of building a life together. Each word sounds almost cruel.

Ethan holds my hands and repeats his vows without hesitation.

“I promise to love you, honor you, and remain faithful to you for the rest of my life.”

A few guests smile.

My mother dabs at her eyes.

Vanessa looks down, but I see the corner of her mouth lift.

Then the officiant turns to me.

“Serena Vale, do you take Ethan Carter to be your husband?”

I look at Ethan.

He gives my fingers a warning squeeze.

“No,” I say.

The room goes still.

Ethan’s smile disappears.

“What did you say?”

I pull my hands from him.

“I said no.”

Whispers spread through the hall.

My mother rises from her seat.

“Serena, think about the baby.”

“I am.”

I hand my bouquet to the wedding coordinator and take out the black drive.

“There is no baby.”

My mother’s face loses all color.

I look at the screen behind the altar. The one prepared to show photographs from our nine years together.

“Play the first file.”

Luca stands beside the sound booth.

Until now, I have not seen him among the guests.

He inserts the drive.

The screen lights up with two medical reports.

My name appears on both.

The same date.

The same blood sample number.

One says I am six weeks pregnant.

The original laboratory record says I am not pregnant.

A murmur moves through the room.

Ethan turns toward my mother.

“What is this?”

For the first time, he looks genuinely confused.

“You didn’t know?” I ask.

His eyes snap back to me.

“My parents paid a doctor at the Vale clinic to falsify my pregnancy report. They wanted me to believe I was carrying your child.”

My father stands.

“That is enough.”

“No. You’ve all had nine years to lie. Now it’s my turn to speak.”

I nod at Luca.

The next file begins.

Ethan’s voice fills the hall.

“Because you’re carrying my child.”

The recording continues.

“It gives you a responsibility to stop acting like a jealous teenager.”

Then my voice asks why he is marrying me.

“Because our families spent years arranging this.”

The guests turn toward Ethan.

His face hardens.

“Turn it off.”

Luca does not move.

Ethan’s recorded voice continues, explaining that he needs the Vale family’s money, donors, and connections. Then comes his threat to call me unstable if I expose him.

Ethan grabs my arm.

“You have no idea what you’re doing.”

I pull free.

“I know exactly what I’m doing.”

I look at Vanessa.

She has stopped pretending to cry.

Her face is pale as another audio file begins.

Her voice comes through the speakers.

“But what about the things Daniel left behind?”

Ethan’s recorded answer follows.

“Vanessa.”

“I’m only saying, if Serena finds out…”

“Enough.”

The recording ends.

Every eye turns toward Vanessa.

I hold her gaze.

“Tell them, Vanessa.”

Her lips part, but no sound comes out.

I take one step toward her.

“What did your husband leave behind before he died?”
