My Fiancé Chose Her So I Chose Myself Chapter 08

My Fiancé Chose Her So I Chose Myself Chapter 08

*Did something happen? Just reply. One word.*

The latest voice message had been sent at three in the morning. His voice was hoarse, his breathing ragged.

*Natalie, please, just tell me you’re okay. We’ll still buy the apartment. We’ll go to the registry tomorrow and file the partner application again. On Friday, we’ll have the witnesses complete the vow. Just come back. Please.*

I read the transcription and closed the email.

Evan’s messages were next.

*Nat, what do you mean you left the group chat?*

*Travis looked for you all night. Are you really going to punish everyone like this?*

*Pick up. Jenna feels so guilty about you and Travis she lost control again. She’s back in urgent care. Come back and clear this up.*

A dry laugh escaped my lips.

Jenna was in urgent care again. This time, too, she wouldn’t be alone.

Brooke’s emails were nothing but accusations. She said I only thought about myself, that I’d ruined everyone’s weekend and betrayed the pack we’d all grown up in.

I didn’t answer any of them.

I saved the personnel files I needed, set up filters to block their email addresses, and formally canceled my old phone line.

Then I turned off the backup phone and shoved it into the back of a drawer.

The next day, I completed my relocation at the Thames Riverside registry.

The next three years passed quickly.

I poured all my energy into my work. Without the constant drain of our fights, I was finally able to focus completely on myself.
