My Fiancé Chose Her So I Chose Myself Chapter 11

My Fiancé Chose Her So I Chose Myself Chapter 11

She had changed, too.

The easy softness that came from always being looked after was gone. Dark circles shadowed the skin beneath her eyes, and even a heavy dose of scent suppressant couldn’t fully mask the gardenia note clinging to her.

Our background check had shown that Travis had given her a position at TerraGrid as head of community and pack relations. The role had no clear responsibilities, but it granted her access to territorial subsidies and internal accounts.

Evan, meanwhile, had developed a heavy drinking habit. The entanglement between the three of them had already drawn warnings from both TerraGrid’s board and the Lakecrest council.

“Natalie, you’re finally back.”

Jenna’s eyes flicked over my gown and the Northstar insignia on my lapel, a flash of jealousy in their depths.

Then she quickly slipped back into her old, fragile expression and reached for my arm.

“Do you know how awful Travis has been these past three years? His wolf gets so restless at night. He can only sleep with suppressants prescribed by a doctor…”

I turned, avoiding her hand.

“Then he should speak to his doctor. It has nothing to do with me.”

Jenna froze.

“How can you be this cold?” She bit her lip, and tears welled in her eyes. “I was the one who was wrong back then. I took up too much of their time. You can blame me, but please, stop punishing Travis and Evan.”

“Stop, Jenna.”

I had no desire to watch this performance.

“How the three of you are doing now means absolutely nothing to me. Stop assuming I’m still paying attention.”

Her face flushed, and even the scent suppressant couldn’t hide the sharp, sour smell of her panic.

Hurried footsteps echoed from the end of the hall. Travis and Evan had come looking for her.

The moment Evan saw Jenna crying, he rounded on me.

“Natalie, what did you do to her this time?”

Before he could finish, Travis shoved him aside.

He stepped in front of me, his eyes pleading.

“Natalie, can we just talk? Alone? For ten minutes. That’s all I ask.”

He tried to touch my hand.

I shook him off.

“Mr. Vale, we do not have that kind of relationship.”
