My Fiancé Erased Our Nine-Year Mark For His Blood Servant Chapter 06

She Isn’t Coming Back

By the time Adrian realizes Evelyn may not be coming back, Sophia is already standing before him in her wedding gown.

He hasn’t slept all night.

Every message he has sent Evelyn remains unanswered. Every call goes straight to voicemail.

She’s just angry, he tells himself. That is all.

Evelyn has loved him for nine years. She won’t abandon everything they have over one argument.

Once the wedding is over, he will find her. He will explain that marrying Sophia is the only way to repay the woman who saved his life.

Then he will bring Evelyn home.

A servant rushes into the dressing room.

“My lord, the Blackwood jewelry is gone.”

Sophia turns pale.

“What?”

“All of it was removed from the castle last night.”

Her hand flies to her bare throat. She was supposed to wear Evelyn’s black diamond choker today.

“Did Evelyn take it?” Sophia asks softly. “Is she trying to ruin the wedding?”

Adrian’s jaw tightens.

Yesterday, Evelyn stood before him and asked for that choker back.

He told her she could have it after Sophia died.

Now someone has taken every Blackwood heirloom from his castle.

“Find something else for Sophia,” he orders.

Sophia lowers her eyes, tears gathering along her lashes.

“I’m sorry, Adrian. This is all my fault. If it weren’t for me, Evelyn wouldn’t have left.”

“She hasn’t left.”

The words come out sharper than he intends.

“She’s throwing a tantrum. I’ve spoiled her for too long, and now she thinks she can force me to cancel the wedding.”

Sophia touches his arm.

“But what if she really doesn’t come back?”

“She will.”

He answers without hesitation.

But the certainty he felt last night is gone.

As Adrian walks through the castle, he begins to notice everything that is missing.

He sees Evelyn in Sophia’s wedding dress again, silver jewelry burning against her bare skin.

The door to her room stands open.

Inside, there is nothing.

Sophia ordered Evelyn’s belongings removed to make room for her own, and Adrian allowed it.

At the time, it seemed temporary. Necessary.

Now the empty room feels like a warning.

For the first time, he imagines Evelyn standing here yesterday, watching another woman erase every trace of her from the home they shared.

An uncomfortable pressure closes around his chest.

He takes out his phone and calls her again.

Still no answer.

The ceremony begins at sunset.

Sophia walks toward him beneath hundreds of candles, dressed in white and smiling through tears.

Every guest turns to admire the bride.

Adrian keeps watching the doors behind her.

Evelyn will appear.

She will walk in wearing that cold expression she always uses when she wants him to know she is angry.

She will accuse him of humiliating her.

She might even demand that he leave with her.

He waits for it.

The doors remain closed.

Sophia reaches him and places her hand in his.

The officiant begins speaking, but Adrian barely hears him.

He sees Evelyn in Sophia’s wedding dress again, silver chains and jewelry burning against her bare skin.

Her face was drained of color.

She told him she was pregnant.

She begged him to make them take the silver off.

He didn’t believe her.

He thought it was another lie meant to stop the wedding.

But what if it wasn’t?

His blood turns cold.

“I need to go.”

Sophia’s fingers tighten around his.

“What?”

“I need to find Evelyn.”

A murmur spreads through the hall as Adrian steps away from the altar.

Sophia grabs his sleeve.

“You’re leaving me at our wedding to go after her?”

Her voice breaks. A violent cough shakes her body, and blood stains the handkerchief she presses to her lips.

Adrian catches her before she falls.

Everyone is watching them.

He should be worried about her.

Instead, for the first time, he feels irritated.

“Adrian,” she whispers, clinging to him. “Please don’t leave me.”

And suddenly, he understands.

Sophia can barely endure watching him take a few steps toward the door.

What did Evelyn feel when he erased their nine-year Betrothal Mark?

When he filled their home with another woman’s belongings?

When he refused to return her family heirloom and told her Sophia could wear it first?

When Evelyn told him she was carrying his child, and he refused to believe her?

He remembers the way she looked at him before she left.

She wasn’t angry.

She wasn’t waiting for him to stop her.

She was finished.

Adrian takes out his phone and calls her again.

This time, someone answers.

“Evelyn?”

Silence.

Then a man’s voice comes through the line.

“Stop calling her, Adrian.”

Adrian knows that voice.

His grip tightens around the phone.

“Lucien.”

Lucien’s answer is cold.

“You’ve already taken enough from her.”
