My Fiancé Postponed Our Wedding So I Married The Don He Feared Chapter 10

Married life, for me, was happiness and tranquility like nothing I’d ever experienced.

Gabriel spoiled me like a princess.

In life and in work, he gave me his fullest support and understanding.

I left my old job and threw myself into the design work I’d always been passionate about.

Gabriel set up a studio for me and provided the finest resources available.

I could finally shine freely in a world untouched by the shadows of Damian and Bianca.

A few months later, a surprise arrived.

I was pregnant.

When I told Gabriel, he froze for a few seconds.

Then his face broke into uncontainable joy.

He swept me up in his arms and spun me around the living room.

“I’m going to be a dad!”

“Olivia, I’m going to be a dad!”

He whooped like a boy, his eyes glistening red at the rims.

I leaned into him, feeling the wonder and anticipation this tiny life had brought us.

To keep me safe and stress-free during the pregnancy, Gabriel wrapped me in protection so thorough it was almost suffocating.

He cooked my meals himself, walked with me every day on schedule, and read me bedtime stories at night.

The household staff and guards doted on me as well.

I basked in the warmth of being loved and cared for, a sweet smile perpetually on my face.

When both sets of parents heard the news, they were over the moon.

My mother sent soups and pastries every single day.

Gabriel’s mother brought in an experienced maternity nurse and a nutritionist.

The whole house was immersed in the joy of a new life on its way.

In those warm, happy days, I had almost forgotten Damian existed.

Until one day, an unexpected visitor shattered that peace.

It was a bright, sunny afternoon.

I was strolling in the garden, marveling at the gentle flutter of movement in my belly.

The doorbell rang.

The guard went to answer.

A moment later, he returned with an uneasy expression.

“Ma’am, there’s a gentleman outside. Says he’s an old friend of yours. Wants to see you.”

I frowned slightly.

“Who is it?”

The guard hesitated.

Something stirred in my chest. I had a vague sense of who it might be.

After a moment, I said, “Let him in.”

When Damian appeared before me, I could hardly believe my eyes.

This man, who had once been so spirited and proud.

Now he was gaunt to the bone, his face haggard, eyes bloodshot with deep circles beneath them.

His hair was unkempt, his clothes wrinkled, his entire being radiating defeat.

His back was hunched, as though life had bent his spine.

The moment he saw me, something complex flickered in his eyes.

Pain. Regret. And a sliver of hope that had no right to be there.

He opened his mouth, his voice so hoarse it barely sounded human.

“Olivia. It’s been a while.”

I looked at him calmly.

No sorrow. No anger. Only a faint, detached distance.

“What are you doing here?”

Damian’s gaze dropped to my gently rounded belly.

His pupils contracted sharply. The color drained from his face.

He knew what it meant.

It meant I belonged completely to someone else. It meant my life had turned its page, and there was no place left for him.

He forced a smile that looked worse than tears.

“I… I just wanted to see you.”

He paused, his eyes reddening fast, fighting to hold the tears back.

“Congratulations. You’re pregnant, aren’t you?”

I gave a small nod. Said nothing more.

Damian looked at me now, at how happy and peaceful I was, and regret surged over him like a tide, nearly drowning him whole.

He thought of how he’d neglected me. How he’d indulged Bianca.

All those things he’d once dismissed as trivial had become knives buried in his chest.

He smiled, but tears blurred his vision.

“Seeing you happy… I can rest easy.”

The words fell, and his smile crumbled.

Tears broke free at last, sliding silently down his haggard face.

He cried without a sound.

But that regret, the regret of a man who has lost everything, cut deeper than any wail ever could.

“I’m such a fool.”

He murmured to himself, voice choked.

“I had the best girl in the world, and I pushed her away with my own hands.”

“I deserve this.”

He didn’t beg. He didn’t bring up what we used to be.

He simply stood there, looking at me quietly, as if trying to engrave this image of my happiness into the deepest part of his memory.

Finally, with visible effort, he said, “I’m sorry for the intrusion.”

“Take care of yourself.”

Then he turned, dragging heavy steps, and slowly walked away.

I watched his retreating figure and felt nothing stir inside me.

The love, the hatred, the grievances, the obsessions of the past, all of it scattered in that moment, once and for all.

I knew he had paid the price for his mistakes. He had tasted the full bitterness of regret.

And I had finally broken free of the past, finding the happiness that was truly mine.

I gently stroked my belly, and a tender smile returned to my face.

Gabriel stepped out from inside, wrapping his arms softly around me.

“What’s wrong?”

He asked quietly.

I shook my head and leaned into his chest.

“Nothing. It’s all over now.”

Sunlight fell across us, warm and bright.

And my happiness was only just beginning.
