My Fiancé Sent Me To Another Man On Our Wedding Day Chapter 16
If it really was Conrad, then the marriage was a far better fate than Rafael had imagined for me.
On our wedding day, I told Conrad everything.
“Conrad, I have an ex-boyfriend. We grew up together, and we were a couple for years. I even donated a kidney to him.”
I looked at him.
“If any of that bothers you, I understand.”
Conrad didn’t let me finish.
“It doesn’t bother me.”
His answer was immediate and direct.
“Helena, if you’ve decided to marry me, then your past is just a part of your life. It’s not something to be judged.”
“What matters to me is our future—the years we’re going to spend together.”
He paused.
“This marriage was arranged by our families. But since we’re standing here now, I’m going to take you, and this marriage, very seriously.”
I looked up at him, my heart surprisingly steady.
“Conrad, since I’ve chosen you, I’ll take this seriously, too.”
“I’m not looking back.”
Rafael waited near the Hawthorne estate for days, just to see me.
On the third day, he finally caught me on my way out.
He stopped me and held out a box.
Inside was my mother’s bracelet.
“Helena, I got it back.” His eyes were still red. “I waited six months for you. I just wanted to return this.”
“Margot and I are divorced. From now on, she’ll never get your things again.”
I took the box and looked at the familiar bracelet.
Then I closed the lid.
“Thank you for returning it.”
Rafael looked at me, his voice tight with desperation.
“Helena, I know I was wrong. Can you forgive me? Divorce Conrad. Let’s go back to how we were.”
“We can’t go back.” I put the box away and looked at him evenly. “Rafael, I’m married. I’m going to honor my marriage.”
He looked like he couldn’t breathe. He stood there, speechless.
I didn’t wait for him to find his voice. I walked around him and didn’t look back.
From that moment on, I knew there would never be an “us” again.
