My Fiancé Sent Me To Another Man On Our Wedding Day Chapter 19
On our daughter’s first birthday, the Hawthorne house was filled with guests.
Our daughter, dressed in a little red dress, sat on Old Mr. Hawthorne’s lap, reaching for the decorations on the table.
She touched a silver rattle, then suddenly grabbed the braided bracelet on Conrad’s wrist and refused to let go.
Everyone laughed, saying she was clearly a daddy’s girl.
But Conrad gently placed our daughter’s hand in mine.
“The person she should cling to is her mother.”
I was about to reply when raised voices echoed from the entrance.
“Please, just let me in. I need to see Mrs. Hawthorne.”
The voice was familiar.
The next second, the doors to the banquet hall were shoved open.
Margot stumbled inside.
She was much thinner. A dark bruise marred her temple, and there were finger-shaped marks on her arm.
The moment she saw me, she grabbed the edge of a table to steady herself, her voice shaking.
“Helena, help me.”
The entire room fell silent.
Conrad immediately stepped in front of me and said to security, “Get her out.”
“No!” Margot clutched the tablecloth, tears streaming down her face. “Conrad, my father’s debt is to your family. If you just tell them I don’t have to be the payment, that man will let me go.”
Hearing that, I finally understood.
She thought the Hawthornes were the ones who had arranged her sale.
