My Fiancé Sent Me To Another Man On Our Wedding Day Chapter 25

The Bennett family company went bankrupt.

Its assets were liquidated, and every cent went toward paying their debts.

It still wasn’t enough.

Margot’s parents, once a united front, turned on each other.

In their efforts to shift the blame, they dragged every one of the other’s dirty secrets into the light.

The polished, respectable couple the world had once seen devolved into a public spectacle of greed and recrimination.

Conrad did nothing.

He didn’t have to.

“We are simply recovering what is owed to the Hawthorne family under the terms of the contract,” he said, his tone calm.

I nodded and closed the file.

People said that I had married into power and used it for revenge.

But from beginning to end, every action I took was based on the letter of the law.

What they couldn’t stand was that they could no longer use Margot’s life—or mine—to fill the hole they had dug for themselves.

Half a month after the dust settled, Rafael’s mother came to see me.

She stood outside the Hawthorne estate, clutching an old box.

It had only been a year, but she looked decades older. Her hair was almost completely white.

“Helena.” She held the box out, her voice shaking. “I’m not trying to cause trouble. I found this when I was going through Rafael’s things.”
