My Fiancé Sent Me To Another Man On Our Wedding Day Chapter 28
Of course I remembered.
I had poured three months of my life into that project.
Then Margot took it, basked in the glory, and Rafael told me to let it go.
After that, I slowly lost all passion for my work.
“I’m not asking you to dredge up the past,” Chloe said, her eyes serious. “I’m telling you that all the Bennett family’s projects have been shut down. You have the talent. You have the experience. Why not start again?”
I opened the folder.
It was a new business plan.
There was no Margot in it. No Rafael.
At the signature line, Chloe had already left a space for me.
“We’ll do it together,” she said.
I sat there for a moment, then picked up a pen and signed my name.
When Conrad found out I was starting a company, his first reaction was to offer me funding.
I refused.
“I want to do this myself.”
He didn’t push. He just put the check away and smiled. “All right. Then I’ll just have to wait for my CEO to support me.”
I looked at him.
“You’re not afraid I’ll fail?”
“I am,” he answered honestly. “But failure just means we find another path. It doesn’t mean you’re a failure.”
In that moment, I understood something with perfect clarity: someone who truly loves you will never use that love as a cage.
A month later, the small company Chloe and I founded officially opened for business.
The office wasn’t big, and the team was small.
But the moment I hung the plaque with my own name on the door, I felt a weight lift from my shoulders.
I was no longer someone’s adopted daughter.
No longer the girl who grew up in someone’s shadow, or the bride who was traded away.
This time, I was just me.
