My Fiancé Sent Me To Another Man On Our Wedding Day Chapter 30

“He was giving them to me because right and wrong meant nothing to him.”

I asked evenly, “Is that all you came to say?”

Margot’s face paled.

“I also wanted to apologize for the cat.”

My fingers tightened into fists.

“I fed it something I knew would make it sick. I couldn’t stand the way it kept rubbing against my dress.”

I looked at her, and it felt like a fresh wound opening in my chest.

I had always known she was the one who killed my cat, but hearing her admit it so plainly was still a shock.

“Does an apology change anything?”

Her tears finally fell.

“No.”

“My cat isn’t coming back,” I said, looking her straight in the eye. “And all the things you took from me won’t magically reappear just because you’re crying now.”

“I know,” she nodded.

“So, no. I don’t forgive you,” I said, making it perfectly clear.

Margot’s shoulders trembled.

After a long moment, she finally whispered, “Okay.”

She turned and took a few steps, then stopped.

“Thank you for calling the police that day.”

“You don’t need to thank me,” I said flatly. “I just did what I thought was right.”

After she left, I sat in my office for a long time.

When Conrad came to pick me up, he noticed my eyes were red.

He didn’t press. He just placed our daughter in my arms.

She was just starting to talk.

She wrapped her little arms around my neck and mumbled, “Mama.”

The tension that had been coiled inside me for so long finally snapped.

I had lost so much.

My parents. My cat. The man I once thought would be my life.

But I couldn’t spend the rest of my years staring at what I’d lost.

Holding my daughter, I felt for the first time that those old debts could finally be put to rest.
