My Fiancé Swapped Places With His Twin At The Altar Chapter 03
A servant led me to a dressing room.
I pushed the door open and froze.
Matteo was inside, shrugging off his liquor-stained shirt.
The light caught the familiar planes of his shoulders and back, and my chest ached.
When he saw me, his expression shuttered.
He snatched up his shirt to cover himself, the panic in his eyes hardening into disgust.
“Bianca, this is pathetic. Did you follow me all the way here?”
“I’m your husband’s brother.”
The words were a blade.
But I lifted my chin and met the gaze of that face I knew so well.
I smiled.
“You two really do look alike.”
“Sometimes, I honestly can’t tell you apart.”
The air in the room grew heavy.
It was as if I’d exposed something shameful. A flicker of embarrassment crossed Matteo’s eyes.
It was gone in an instant.
An irritated scowl took its place.
“Stay away from me. Ashley gets jealous. She doesn’t like me talking to other women.”
Something twisted in my chest.
I used to be the one who said things like that.
I never wanted him too close to other women, and he would always pull me into his arms and laugh.
“Okay. I only listen to my wife.”
Now, he had given that role to Ashley.
In that moment, the last of my resistance crumbled.
Just then, the dressing room door was kicked open by a bodyguard.
Ashley stood in the doorway, her face ashen.
She looked at Matteo, half-dressed, then at me, dripping wet. Tears spilled down her cheeks.
“Matteo… what are you doing?”
Matteo shoved me away without a second thought.
The corner of the table dug into my lower back, and I doubled over in pain.
But he was already rushing to Ashley’s side, his words a hurried explanation.
“Ashley, it’s not what it looks like. She just barged in. She was trying to seduce me.”
“I swear, I only love you.”
Ashley bit her lip, clutching his shirt as she sobbed.
My mother stormed in and slapped me across the face.
My head snapped to the side, my mouth instantly filling with the taste of blood.
“Bianca, how could you?” she said, trembling with rage. “He’s your brother-in-law.”
My father stood at the door, his face livid.
In my brother’s eyes, there was only disgust.
Isabella pressed a hand to her chest, her voice shaking.
“Why did the Moretti family ever let a woman like this marry in?”
Mr. Moretti’s voice was flat. “Lock her in the guest room. Let her out when she learns some respect for her marriage.”
I touched my numb cheek, suddenly having no desire to defend myself.
That was when Alessio walked in.
Mr. Moretti barked at him, “Good. You’re just in time. Take your wife away and stop her from humiliating us any further.”
Isabella added, “You can’t even control one person.”
Alessio ignored them both.
He walked to my side and helped me to my feet.
“She is my wife.”
He paused, his gaze sweeping over everyone in the room.
“And she is not an object for any of you to dispose of as you please.”
Matteo’s expression changed.
He stared at Alessio’s back as he led me away, his face slowly darkening.
