My Husband Buried Our Kids. So I Buried His Legacy. Fair Trade. Chapter 12

The alarms blared. The heart monitor flatlined. The OR exploded.

“Cardiac arrest!”

“BP’s crashing!”

Doctors rushed in. Someone pumped Ethan’s chest. Someone else watched the numbers drop.

“The anesthesia is WRONG!” One doctor looked up and shouted at Mira. “What the hell did you give him—are you insane?!”

Mira stood there. Calm. Almost smiling.

“Dr. Drake’s orders,” she said. Steady voice. “I gave it. Take it up with him.”

The doctor went pale. “This is murder! Move—now—”

Mira raised her hand. Two nurses stepped in. One on each side. Blocked him.

“What the hell are you doing—”

“Didn’t you hear me?” Mira laughed. “Dr. Drake told me to do it. These little things—no use for them anymore.”

She walked to the table. Looked down at Ethan’s face.

“Once Elara’s out of the way, the whole hospital belongs to Dr. Drake. And I’ll be the next Mrs. Drake.”

“I can give him as many kids as he wants. These two little bastards? No reason to keep them around.”

The doctor couldn’t break free. Face white. Lips shaking. He watched the numbers drop. Helpless. Furious. Then he stormed out, slamming the door.

“You’ll all pay for this!”

A few breaths later, Lucian stumbled back in. He’d been in the other OR. With Evan.

He looked at the monitor. Flatline. Froze.

Mira threw herself at him. Face in his chest. Sobbing.

“I tried everything… I really tried… he didn’t make it…”

“Elara already hates me… she’s going to blame me…”

Lucian held her. No expression. He stared at that flat line for a long time. Then closed his eyes.

“It’s God’s will,” he said. “No one’s to blame. I’ll handle Elara.”

The footage cut.

Black screen.

I couldn’t hold it anymore. Dropped to my knees. Hit the floor hard. It hurt. I didn’t feel it.

I screamed their names. Ethan. Evan. Over and over. Crying so hard I couldn’t breathe.

“Mommy’s sorry. Mommy shouldn’t have let you go to that table. Mommy’s so sorry—”

The comments went crazy.

[It’s real… she wasn’t crazy. The father and his mistress actually killed their own kids.]

[Mira Voss is a murderer. Lucian Drake covered for her. They’re both killers.]

[Elara, I’m sorry. I blamed you. I was wrong.]

[When she fell to her knees screaming their names… I broke down. Legit crying.]

[Arrest them both. Now. Don’t let either one go!]

Then Marcus Webb—the doctor who’d been forced out that day—stepped forward. Eyes swollen. Voice hoarse.

“That footage is real. I watched her use the wrong dose. I tried to stop it. They blocked me… I’m so sorry…”

He stopped. Clenched his fists.

“Lucian fired me later. Made up some ‘surgical negligence’ excuse. Mira said if I told Elara the truth, they’d make sure I never worked in medicine again.”

“I regret it. Every day… I wish I’d spoken up sooner.”

Then the hospital’s IT director came forward. Head down. Voice shaking.

“I deleted the footage… Mira told me to. Said it was Dr. Drake’s orders. Said they didn’t need a record…”

“I was too scared to say no. I’m so sorry…”

I watched them step forward one by one. Didn’t feel a thing.

Too late.

Every word came too late.

My kids were gone. They weren’t coming back.
