My Mother’s Perfect AI Lied And Left Me For Dead Chapter 24
Claire had been out of prison for years.
I had seen photos from her sentencing, but the person standing before me looked even older. Her fingers were bent, and pale scars crossed her knuckles.
The places she had split open pounding the floor in that dream.
She stared at me and walked closer, one step at a time.
“Mo.”
My husband stepped between us.
“Please stop.”
Claire stopped.
She looked at my wrist, and tears streamed down her face.
“It’s you, isn’t it? You came back.”
“I told you. Next time, we shouldn’t meet.”
Her body swayed.
Westley had to grab the bench to keep from falling.
Only the three people in that dream had heard those words.
Claire’s mouth opened, but it took her a long time to find her voice.
“You remember. You really remember.”
She looked as if she wanted to smile, then broke down crying.
“I’ve been waiting every day. I know you’ll never forgive me, but I still wanted to see you one more time.”
She reached a hand toward me.
I didn’t step back, but I didn’t let her touch me.
“You’ve seen me.”
“I served my sentence,” she said urgently.
