My Mother’s Perfect AI Lied And Left Me For Dead Chapter 33
My husband didn’t answer for me.
He stood by the door, quietly waiting.
I walked over to Westley.
“I remember the platform. I remember the trunk. I remember you standing at the door.”
His cane slipped from his hand and clattered to the floor.
“Mo…”
“I remember the waiting room, too.”
Westley covered his face, a muffled sob breaking through his palms.
“I’m sorry.”
“I know.”
He lifted his head, as if waiting for what came next.
I did not say I forgave him.
“Morgan already left what she needed to say in Claire’s dream. And she saw what you did afterward.”
“Then she…”
“She walked through that door.”
Westley’s lips trembled.
“You’re the one on the other side of it.”
“I was.”
I sat down beside him.
“But in this life, I have my own name, my own parents, my own child. Remembering Morgan doesn’t mean I’m going back.”
“I understand.”
He said it too quickly, then repeated it.
“I’ll learn to understand.”
He took a small key from his wallet.
“The drawing is in the safe at the community center. So is her reading log. I want to give them to you.”
I didn’t take it.
“Put the drawing in the memorial garden.”
“You don’t want it?”
“It belongs to Morgan. It should stay with her.”
Westley lowered his eyes to the key.
“I kept holding on to it because it felt like if I let it go, I’d be losing her a second time.”
“Holding on to a piece of paper won’t open the car door again.”
