My Savior Became My Betrayal Chapter 03
The next day, I took the day off work and packed my bags.
I didn’t have much to take—just a few changes of clothes and my personal paperwork.
Then, the doorbell rang.
I figured it was the courier dropping off the divorce papers, but when I pulled the door open, I froze.
It was Leticia.
She stood there in a pristine white cashmere coat, holding the hand of the little boy from the video.
I gripped the doorknob until my knuckles turned white.
“Melinda, aren’t you going to invite me in?”
Leticia took in my pale face with obvious satisfaction.
“I couldn’t explain everything properly in the video, so I brought Ernie to see you in person.”
She nudged the boy forward, making sure I got a good look at him.
“Ernie starts kindergarten soon, and Ken feels terrible that he doesn’t have a proper family.
“Ken says Ernie is the eldest grandson of the Rowletts, so he wants me to officially move in.”
As I looked at the kid who looked so sickeningly like Kennith, a violent wave of nausea hit me.
“Get out!” I snarled.
My eyes welled with tears as I pointed toward the elevator.
“Take your little bastard and get out of my house!”
I tried to slam the door, refusing to look at them a second longer, but Leticia shot her hand out and caught the frame.
She leaned in close, her voice dropping to a mocking whisper.
“Melinda, why are you acting so high and mighty? Do you honestly think Ken loves you?
“He told me himself that every time he shares a bed with you, he has to take sleeping pills just to stomach the disgust.
“He said the second he touches you, he’s reminded of those thugs raping you all those years ago.”
She held my gaze and took a step closer.
“He also said you’re dirty. That’s why he comes to me for sex. He says only a clean body like mine can actually turn him on.”
I completely snapped.
I had spent twelve long years healing from the trauma I suffered at sixteen.
And Kennith had used it as pillow talk—a sick joke to share with his mistress.
“You don’t get to talk about that!” I screamed.
I drew back my arm and slapped her across the face with everything I had.
The force of the blow sent Leticia stumbling backward.
The crack echoed sharply in the hallway.
Her head slammed hard into the corner of the entryway shoe cabinet, and blood instantly started pouring down her face.
The little boy started shrieking in terror.
Clutching her bleeding forehead, Leticia scrambled backward.
“You crazy bitch! You’re out of your mind! Just wait and see what happens to you!”
She grabbed her son and bolted for the elevator.
Exhausted, I slid down the doorframe until I hit the floor. I closed my eyes, a cold sweat breaking out along my hairline.
My mind was completely made up. I reached under the table and pulled out the ultrasound scan—a little slip of paper I’d been waiting on for half a year—and tore it into tiny shreds.
I’d originally planned to give it to Kennith as a surprise, but now, just the thought of it was agonizingly humiliating.
Half an hour later, the lawyer showed up with the paperwork. I signed my name and left the divorce agreement sitting dead center on the dining table.
Outside, the skies opened up in a torrential downpour, thunder rattling the windows.
I grabbed my suitcase, ready to walk out for good.
Just then, a deafening crash echoed through the room.
Kennith had kicked the front door open from the outside.
Before I could even process what was happening, the veins in Kennith’s forehead bulged. He lunged, his hands clamping tight around my throat.
“Melinda! Where did you take Ernie?”
