Reborn To Reject My Regretful Mate For The King Chapter 06
Evelyn refused to let go.
“You’re going to abandon me—your bride—in front of all these people? In front of the media?”
Julian pried her fingers from his arm, his expression incredulous.
“That’s your sister.”
“Is her life really less important than your reputation?”
Evelyn bit her lip, her eyes darting toward the surrounding cameras.
“She left this morning. She could already be in Northvale by now.”
“You don’t want her to die, but after everything you’ve done to her, how are you any better than Adrian?”
Julian closed his eyes.
When he opened them again, his resolve was set.
“I don’t care what kind of papers she signed with that man. I’m bringing her back.”
Adrian stepped forward to steady Evelyn, whose face had gone white.
“I’ll go with him, make sure he doesn’t do anything reckless. You go back to your room.”
The two of them drove north.
By the time they used the hired driver’s GPS data to track the vehicle’s last known location, it was late the following night.
The area was close to rogue territory. The public network was spotty, and there were no city surveillance cameras on the route.
A burned-out SUV sat on the shoulder of the forest highway.
The license plate matched the temporary one Adrian had arranged.
There was no body inside, only the charred remains of women’s clothing in the back seat and a brooch Camille often wore.
Two patrollers stood nearby, waiting for the Royal Guard to arrive, their voices low.
“Campers nearby said they heard a woman screaming in the car when it caught fire.”
“The fire was too intense. Even for a werewolf, there’s no surviving that if you’re trapped in a twisted frame.”
Adrian’s legs gave out. He fell to his knees on the cold, wet road.
He scooped up a handful of the still-warm ash, his entire body shaking.
Just that morning, he had watched Camille get into that car.
Now there wasn’t even a body left.
Julian punched him, sending him sprawling.
“You disgust me, Adrian.”
“You never deserved to be her brother.”
