Reborn To Reject My Regretful Mate For The King Chapter 10

Rhys Cole was the Royal Guard Gavin trusted most.

He was a man of few words and rarely left the surveillance room.

Somehow, being watched by one man was more unsettling than being watched by four.

I had shown my hand too early.

Gale knew I suspected his real identity, but he still hadn’t decided whether to trust me or kill me.

When Northvale’s long rainy season began, his leg injuries started to flare up.

Whenever the pain hit, he would grit his teeth and sit in the glassed-in corridor, watching the rain pour down in the courtyard.

The color would drain from his lips, but his expression never changed.

“There’s no one else here.” I rolled the heat therapy device to his side. “If it hurts, you can go back to your room. You can even scream if you want to. You don’t have to pretend you’re made of stone.”

Gale turned to look at me.

The machine hummed, a low, steady sound.

After a long moment, he smiled.

It was the first genuine smile I had seen on his face.

“I’m just trying to confirm one thing.”

“Whether this body is still ruled by me—or by this pair of ruined legs.”

I had spent years as a healer’s assistant, but I had never met anyone who tried to conquer his own wounds through sheer force of will.
