Reborn To Reject My Regretful Mate For The King Chapter 13
I thought he was attacking. My wolf braced to shift.
But he only pulled me into a crushing embrace.
The darkness amplified the scent of his fear. This wasn’t a king’s command or an Alpha’s pressure. It was the raw, helpless terror of a child trapped in a nightmare.
He pressed his forehead to my shoulder, his voice rough and low.
“Camille, everyone who learns my weaknesses dies.”
“Now you know the second one.”
“When should I kill you?”
My body went rigid, but I still lifted my arms and held him in return.
“Never.”
“I won’t betray you.”
I turned the bedside lamp back on and helped him lie down.
To reassure him, I sat on the edge of the bed, holding his right hand in both of mine.
At some point, I fell asleep like that.
When I woke the next morning, Rhys was standing in the doorway and had clearly been there for some time.
He set a tablet on the bedside table.
The entire internal Greymoor Pack network was plastered with my photo on a missing person alert.
“Adrian has traced you to Northvale,” Rhys told Gavin. “He and Julian are getting close.”
Gavin sat up, his eyes moving from the screen to my face and back again.
“The picture is a decent likeness.”
After Rhys left, Gavin suddenly cupped my face in his hands.
“Remember what you said last night.”
“Between Adrian and me, you can only choose me.”
“Otherwise, I’ll never let you leave again.”
I pushed his hands away and fled the bedroom.
From that day on, Gavin’s attitude toward me began to change.
He had Rhys take note of my favorite foods. After each treatment, he’d ask if I was tired. He started subtly probing, asking what colors I liked, if I had ever loved anyone.
I still hadn’t figured out what he wanted.
Six months later, Adrian and Julian found the safe house.
