The night the gunfire erupted, Gavin’s first order was for Rhys to get me out.
He gave me no time to argue.
Rhys led me through an underground passage into the forest, escorting me to a backup evacuation point far from the fighting.
“King Gavin says you are free, from this moment on.”
With that, he turned and ran back toward the safe house.
I had no chance to say goodbye. I could only turn south, heading alone toward the highway.
I hadn’t gone far when a group of armed men from Southridge Pack emerged from the darkness, surrounding me.
Their leader stepped forward.
“Camille.”
It was Adrian.
I turned to leave, but he grabbed my arm.
“It’s too dangerous out here tonight. You can’t be alone in the forest.”
“Come back to Greymoor with me. We’ll never treat you like that again.”
I shook him off and took a step back.
“I told you. We are nothing to each other.”
“That’s only because Gavin threatened you.”
Adrian shook his head, his voice urgent.
“I know who he really is now.”
“I was the one who contacted Magnus. I gave Southridge Pack the location of this safe house. Tonight, they’ll make sure Gavin never gets the chance to rise again.”
