Revenge On My Feet Chapter 06

At that moment, he should have been worried about his own career.

But all he could think about was Nadia.

She was in New York, completely alone. Would she be able to cope with the weather?

Would her new coworkers look down on her?

If her prosthetic gave out again, would there be anyone around to help?

Desmond spent two weeks searching for her.

At last, Dr. Prescott, seeing how distracted he was, reached out to him.

“I have Nadia’s contact information. I can pass along a message once, on your behalf.”

“Whatever you want to say, you’d better say it all at once.”

New York.

“Nadia, welcome to the team.”

Yvonne Okafor, the department director, held out her hand to me.

I shook it.

She looked at me, her tone gentle.

“We have quite a few disabled employees here.”

“You don’t need to be nervous about your physical condition. We hire for ability.”

I nodded and glanced around the office.

There were, in fact, several colleagues who, like me, had physical disabilities.

But no one looked at me with pity.

And no one treated me like some curiosity.

They simply smiled and said hello.

Yvonne showed me to my workstation, pointed out the conference rooms, and handed me the project materials.

After the tour, she asked, out of nowhere,

“I heard you were originally planning to go to Bellini Capital in Boston.”

“We contacted your recommending professor several times, but he always said you hadn’t accepted our offer.”

“Why did you end up choosing WU?”

“You don’t have to answer if you don’t want to. I’m just curious.”

I looked at the photos on her office wall.

There were team pictures taken after successful projects, alongside company awards.

Everyone in them looked relaxed and confident.

I smiled and answered,

“Because I don’t want to rely on other people anymore.”

“I want to make my own decisions and live with the consequences.”

“I think WU can give me that opportunity.”

“And I want to become one of the people in those photos.”

Yvonne followed my gaze to the wall, then smiled back at me.

“I believe you will.”

She set the contract and a fountain pen on the desk in front of me.

“This is a five-year contract. Barring a project transfer, you won’t be working in Boston.”

“If you’re sure, sign here.”

I didn’t hesitate. I signed my name.
