Signed Mrs. Sterling Chapter 14

Signed Mrs. Sterling Chapter 14

Harrison marched toward me with the same aggressive stride he used when he was about to fire someone in a board meeting.

But he didn’t go to his injured, crying son first. He came straight for me.

A classic narcissist. In his world, his son’s pain was secondary to his bruised authority.

“What are you doing?” he bellowed again, his finger nearly poking my nose. “Is this your idea of revenge? Does it make you feel good to watch Henry suffer? You’re trespassing in my house. Do you want to go to jail?”

Before I could respond, Vanessa materialized behind him like a ghost.

She linked her arm through his and, in a tearful whisper only a few of us could hear, fanned the flames.

“Harrison, don’t blame Julianne. She’s just so angry… now that we’re getting married. She probably thought… if Henry got hurt, you’d feel sorry for her.”

“Don’t say that, darling. It’s my fault. I didn’t take good care of Henry. I shouldn’t have let her in.”

She had perfected the art of playing the victim.

Harrison’s gaze turned even darker.

“Julianne, how did I never see how toxic you are? Have you lost your mind?”

“That’s enough, Harrison!”

A sharp command cut through Harrison’s tirade.

Sebastian stepped between us, shielding me and Leo, and shoved Harrison back.

“Are you blind? Vanessa threw scalding tea on your son, and Julianne only came because the housekeeper called her for help! For once in your goddamn life, can you think with your brain instead of your dick?”

Harrison stumbled back, staring at his best friend in shock.

“Sebastian? You’re taking her side?”

Then, his eyes fell on Leo, who was clinging to my hand behind Sebastian.

The boy was blond-haired and blue-eyed, with a slight resemblance to Sebastian. In the dim light, Harrison’s rage-addled mind completely misinterpreted the scene.

“Who is he?” Harrison pointed at Leo, his voice trembling. “Is this why you’ve been defending her? How long have you two been screwing around behind my back?”

“You were cuckolding me before the divorce was even final? How old is this kid? Four? Five?”

This was hilarious.

A man who had been cheating for five years was now playing the victim. He actually thought Leo was my love child with Sebastian.

“Your imagination is impressive, Harrison. You should write screenplays.”

I couldn’t be bothered to explain. I took Sebastian’s hand. “Let’s go. This place makes me sick.”

“Stop!” Harrison lunged for me.

Sebastian caught Harrison’s wrist, his eyes as cold as daggers.

“Stay away from her, Harrison. She’s a free woman now. If you touch her again, I’ll make sure your company’s stock tanks tomorrow on the back of a scandal. You know how much dirt I have on you.”

With that, Sebastian escorted me and Leo out of the ornate front doors.

Behind us, we heard Harrison’s furious shouts and the sound of a vase smashing against a wall.

Henry was still crying, but I knew this was a lesson he had to learn on his own.
