Snakes Over Wolves Chapter 07

Snakes Over Wolves Chapter 07

Cameron was allergic to mangoes.

Within three minutes, angry red hives covered his hands. He ignored them, taking massive bites of the fruit.

He didn’t stop until his body started to twitch violently. Then he foamed at the mouth and collapsed onto the pavement.

As the paramedics loaded him into the back of the ambulance, Cameron turned a weak gaze my way. “Nessa… I’m suffering just like you did. Will you give me another chance?”

I gave him a blank stare, didn’t say a word, and held Nathaniel’s hand as we walked home.

Right before he passed out, Cameron watched me walk firmly away.

I saw him again three days later.

I heard he’d spent twenty-four hours in the ICU before finally waking up.

This time, Cameron laid off the extreme stunts. Instead, he started showing up at my usual spots to stage “accidental” run-ins.

Nathaniel was furious. He stayed glued to my side every single time, his snake-like eyes dark with a silent warning.

Later on, Nathaniel and I went to a business banquet.

We split up for a few minutes so he could talk shop with his partners.

I was hanging out by the dessert table, bored out of my mind and eating a piece of cake, when a shadow fell over me as someone stepped right into my light.

I looked up and realized Cameron was standing right in front of me.

I hadn’t even heard him coming.

Annoyed, I turned to walk away, and it hit me for the first time just how truly repulsive the guy was.

Catching the obvious disgust on my face, he looked wounded and quickly called out to stop me. “Nessa, wait. I just came over to tell you that Nathaniel went upstairs with another female werebeast a second ago.”

I stopped dead in my tracks and glanced over to where Nathaniel had just been standing.

He was gone; only his business partner was left, nursing a drink by himself.

Cameron stepped closer, putting on a show of being outraged. “Nessa, he did this right in front of you. Are you seriously going to stay with him?”

I scowled. “That is between us, and it’s none of your business.”

Logically, I knew Nathaniel wasn’t that kind of guy, but I still felt an undeniable spike of irritation.

Pressing his luck, Cameron headed for the stairs to lead the way.

“It’s Room 3015. Come see for yourself, Nessa. Then you’ll know I’m not making this up.”

I followed him upstairs without a second thought.

The walk only took about ten minutes, but it dragged on like an eternity.

What the hell was I going to do if Nathaniel really was cheating on me?

Heart pounding, I found myself standing outside Room 3015 before I even realized it.

Cameron reached for the doorknob, practically buzzing with excitement, but the door flew open from the inside before he could even touch it.

“Get out! Who sent you?” Nathaniel roared. “I spent years in love with my mate before we finally got together, and you are not going to ruin this for me.”

He shoved a scantily clad female werebeast out into the hallway.

He was absolutely furious, but his clothes were perfectly neat and untouched.

His anger evaporated the second he saw me, and he immediately started explaining. “Honey, I swear I didn’t touch her. Someone spiked my drink downstairs at the party. I played along and pretended to drink it, and sure enough, I found this woman waiting in the room.

“Check me yourself if you don’t believe me.”

He actually started pulling off his shirt to prove his innocence, but I caught his hand and let out a genuine laugh. “I believe you.”

The color completely drained from Cameron’s face.

I stared at him, not even trying to hide my contempt. “Did you hire her, Cameron? You really make me sick.”

“It wasn’t me! Nessa, how could you think I’d do something like that?” Cameron looked genuinely hurt.

I didn’t care to hear his excuses. Honestly, it didn’t matter to me whether he was behind it or not.

The whole thing totally killed our mood for the rest of the night.

Nathaniel quickly let the host know we were taking off and guided me toward the exit.

Cameron trailed behind us, still trying to explain himself.

Right then, a filthy, disheveled female werebeast burst into the venue and threw herself straight into Cameron’s arms.

“Cameron, I’m pregnant with your baby! You’re not getting rid of me.”

I took a closer look and realized it was Anika. I hadn’t seen her in forever.
