Speak Up Chapter 05
“I happened to be in the area, working on a story about school disciplinary procedures.”
Veronica took a half step back.
Kate didn’t even look at her.
“The audio is recording, too.”
“Don’t worry. We can blur the students’ faces. We’re interested in the school’s procedures, not student privacy.”
She lifted her gaze to Holloway.
“Director Holloway, please continue.”
Holloway opened her mouth.
“This… this is an internal school matter. It’s not appropriate—”
“Not appropriate?” Kate raised an eyebrow.
“A minor was publicly accused of theft and cheating at a schoolwide assembly, in front of sixteen hundred people.”
“Her spot in a national competition was revoked on the spot, she was suspended before any investigation was concluded, and then she was told to write an apology.”
“You call that an internal matter?”
Her voice wasn’t loud, but the room went dead silent.
The color drained from Holloway’s face.
Veronica could no longer stay quiet.
“May I ask what your relationship is to Bianca? The student council’s investigation was perfectly normal. We have a complete evidence file—”
“Complete evidence?”
My mother finally spoke.
She walked to the desk, opened her briefcase, and took out a clear document folder.
Inside were three notarized affidavits.
“I have three sworn statements here.”
She laid them out on the desk one by one.
