Surprise! My Alpha Mate’s Secret Pups Were Never HIS Chapter 07

(Magnus’s POV)

Freya’s eyes darted around. Then she put on that same red-eyed, wounded look. Voice trembling.

“Okay, Magnus. I’ll do what you say. I’ll go back to Veridian Pack. I won’t come back. Kael and Iris are yours now.”

She wiped the corner of her eye and turned for the door.

Kael and Iris let out a howl and lunged. One pup grabbed each leg, holding on for dear life, wailing so loud the whole den shook. “Mom, don’t go! Mom!”

Freya fought through her “tears,” prying Kael’s claws off and shoving him toward Magnus. The pup stumbled forward, nearly falling.

“Magnus, I love you. I don’t want to make things hard for you. You and Luna take good care of them.”

“Kael and Iris… they won’t adjust without me at first. Just be patient with them. Give them time.”

She turned and walked for the door. Slow. Like she was wading through mud.

Magnus stood there, head still spinning.

Kael suddenly exploded off his leg, launching himself at Magnus, claws out, scratching and pushing.

“Mom, don’t leave me! I’m not staying with this monster! I want my real father! Get away from me! You’re evil!”

Freya spun around. Slapped a hand over Kael’s mouth. But the word was already out.

—”I want my real father.”

Magnus’s brain short-circuited. The shock ran from his scalp to the tip of his tail. He froze. Ears ringing. Eyes locked on Kael’s face. Then Iris’s.

What father would ever think the pups he’d watched through pregnancy, through birth, through ten years of raising—weren’t even his?

Magnus’s face went pale as moonstone. His hands shook as he raised one finger at Freya. His voice came out like grinding stone.

“Who is Kael looking for?”

“Who’s his father?”

Freya’s face went white. Her lips moved but nothing came out. Like her throat had closed up.

Magnus didn’t wait. He roared out the door. Pack guards rushed in.

Minutes later, a team of pack healers arrived. They started drawing blood from both pups for testing.

The moment the needle went in, Freya started screaming. High and sharp enough to split eardrums.

She thrashed. Clawed at the air. Shouted at Magnus.

“You bastard! You call yourself a father? How can you doubt your own pups? What happens when Kael grows up? How’s he supposed to show his face in this Pack? What will everyone think of him?”

Magnus didn’t say a word. He sat there, hand on Freya’s arm, watching the healers seal the samples and send them out. His face didn’t move. Not one hair.

One hour later.

The results came back. The healer’s hands were shaking.

Kael and Magnus Nightshade — No blood relation.

Iris and Magnus Nightshade — No blood relation.

Kael and Freya Grey — Blood relation confirmed.

Iris and Freya Grey — Blood relation confirmed.

Magnus stumbled back. His hind legs hit the table. He slid down to the floor.

He sat there for a long time. The light in the den went from moon-white to ash-grey. Then he looked up. His eyes were terrifying. Cold to the bone. A smile tugged at his mouth.

“Freya. Where are my pups?”

He stood up without a sound. But his eyes ignited into molten gold. Fangs showed. His body half-shifted. He lunged and sank his teeth into Freya’s neck, driving her into the ground.

Freya’s face went purple. Mouth open. Tongue out. She clawed at the floor. Clumps of tail fur came loose.

Two pack enforcers pulled him off. Magnus let out a guttural roar as they dragged him back. The moonstone lamps in the den rattled.

The enforcers hauled Freya up and took her to the Elders’ Council. Charge: Misrepresentation of Alpha bloodline.

Magnus stood there. Breathing hard. Blood dripping slowly from his claws onto the floor.

The next day, Freya confessed everything.

After training camp, she was going nowhere. Then Magnus’s Pack started getting big. She heard he and his Bonded Luna didn’t want pups. And that’s when the gears started turning.

She got close to him as an old Pack mate. Brought him bone broth and meat stew every day. Sweet, caring, never crossed a line. One night, too much moonbrew. She stayed the night.

Then she brought Magnus to see her dying mother. The old she-wolf sobbed about closing her eyes without ever seeing her daughter mated, without ever seeing grandpups.

Freya downed a whole bottle of moonbrew that night. Cried all over Magnus. And he was drinking too. Let his guard down. Said yes to giving her a pup.

They did sleep together that night.

Freya knelt in front of him and swore to the Moon Goddess—she’d raise the pups alone, never interfere with his Luna, disappear after the birth.

Two weeks later, she said she was pregnant. Magnus thought the Moon Goddess had blessed them. One time. That’s all it took.

One time, my ass.

The pups Magnus had loved for ten years? They were Freya’s pups with some rogue. Not a single drop of Nightshade blood in them.

The day the truth came out, Magnus locked himself in his den. Three days. Three nights. His Beta brought meat and water. He didn’t touch any of it. Didn’t ask about Pack affairs.

The scandal spread through Fenrir territory like wildfire.

Nightshade Pack’s reputation crumbled overnight. Rival Packs took advantage. Borders got hit. The Elders were ripping their fur out. But the Alpha wouldn’t show his face. Nobody could do a thing.
