The Annoying Sleepwalker Chapter 06
The room was silent for ten full seconds.
Tessa was the first to understand.
She didn’t even bother with slippers.
She scrambled down the ladder and lunged for the iPad on the floor.
The screen was a spiderweb of cracks.
The frame itself was bent.
Her voice shot up an octave.
“That’s my iPad!”
Mallory rushed over, too.
The second she saw the crushed AirPods Max, her face went white.
“My headphones!”
Then she picked up the Riki mirror, now cracked clean in two, and her hands started to shake.
“Blair Hawthorne! I just bought this!”
Blair’s crying stopped cold.
She looked up, as if she hadn’t understood what she’d just heard.
“Wh-what?”
I explained calmly.
“You already destroyed all my things.”
“So last night, I borrowed Tessa’s iPad for an online class.”
“I borrowed Mallory’s headphones.”
“And I borrowed the RA’s camera to work on my project.”
“All of these things belong to them.”
Tessa whipped her head toward Blair.
“You’re paying for my iPad!”
Mallory exploded.
“The headphones were over five hundred dollars.”
“The mirror was over two hundred.”
“You have to pay me back!”
Tears started rolling down Blair’s face again.
“But I’m not conscious when I sleepwalk.”
“I really didn’t do it on purpose…”
I gently reminded Tessa, “Tessa, she’s in a tough spot, too.”
“Maybe just let it go?”
Tessa’s face turned an ugly shade of red.
Then I turned to Mallory.
“Mallory, we all live in the same room.”
“Don’t make things too awkward.”
Mallory fell silent.
Those were the exact words they had used on me yesterday.
Now I was handing them right back.
And finally, they understood what it felt like to be on the receiving end.
Blair, as if grabbing a lifeline, nodded through her tears.
