The Annoying Sleepwalker Chapter 19
I looked at her and found the whole thing ridiculous.
She destroyed my laptop, and somehow that was me pressuring her.
She smashed other people’s things, and that was me setting her up.
She spread lies online and played the victim, and somehow we were the ones cornering her.
She could always find an excuse.
Ms. Albright’s face finally went cold.
“That’s enough.”
“Blair, you are suspected of intentional destruction of property.”
“You fabricated an illness to avoid responsibility.”
“And you posted false information online, causing serious harm.”
“Tomorrow morning, bring your parents to the student life office.”
Blair jerked her head up.
“Director, I can’t have a disciplinary record! I really can’t!”
Ms. Albright was unmoved.
“This is no longer up for discussion.”
In the room, Tessa held her damaged iPad, her eyes red.
Mallory stood off to one side, her expression equally grim.
When Genevieve finally arrived and heard the full story, she was silent for a long time.
Then, at last, she looked at me.
“Brigid, I’m sorry.”
I didn’t answer.
That apology had come far too late.
But at least this time, I hadn’t paid for their life lessons with my own future.
The next day, Blair’s parents came.
The moment her mother stepped into the office, she started to cry.
“Director, our Blair has always been a timid girl.”
“She must have just been confused for a moment.”
“They’re all classmates. There’s no need to make this so serious, is there?”
“She can pay a little money, apologize, and we can all move on, right?”
Blair sat beside her with her head bowed.
Her father looked grim, but the first thing he asked about was not the damages.
It was the disciplinary action.
“Director, is there any way to keep this off her formal record?”
“She still has to apply to law school.”
Ms. Albright pushed a stack of papers across the table.
“This is the itemized damage list. This is the video.”
“This is the screenshot of the false accusations she posted on Yik Yak.”
