The Capo’s Daughter Needs No Permission Chapter 22
We sat down at a small table in a corner of the supermarket.
My mother placed the metal box in front of me and carefully opened the lid.
Every permission slip I had thrown away was inside.
So were the ones she had later left in my room, stacked neatly on top.
“Romy, your mother will honor every single one of these.”
“Trips, tuition, clothes… all the birthday gifts we owe you from all these years. Whatever you want, just ask.”
“Tell the fund that I claimed the check on your behalf. Delete everything you posted online. We can start over.”
I looked down at the slips of paper.
When I was little, I used to smooth them out and count them every few days.
Back then, I had truly believed my father’s seal meant a promise.
That if I saved enough of them, I could trade them for a single chance to choose my own life.
Now, my mother was willing to honor all of it.
But I no longer wanted to receive anything from her hand.
“I’m not going to lie for you.”
The color drained from my mother’s face.
Ava, sitting at the far end of the table, suddenly spoke up.
“Aunt Maria already gave you the money back. What more do you want from her?”
“And it wasn’t all my fault.”
“Everything I got, they gave to me willingly. I didn’t ask the Ferraro Family to register me as a protected orphan.”
Marco snapped his head toward her.
“You’re the one who posted the link to the Gucci bag in the group chat.”
“And you were the one who complained that Romy’s ringing phone was making you lose your game.”
Tears instantly spilled down Ava’s cheeks.
“I just said it casually!”
“You were the one who blocked her number! And now, because you’re trying to protect your place at your father’s side, you’re trying to pin everything on me?”
Marco’s face went rigid.
My father cut them off.
“That’s enough.”
