The Don’s Faceless Bride Chapter 07
Marco’s eyes were bloodshot, staring at the marriage license in Luca’s hand.
“It has to be fake!”
Luca held it open, speaking with exaggerated sarcasm.
“Forging documents is a crime. I’m a law-abiding citizen.”
Marco was livid. Even my parents started blaming me.
“Ava, I understand you’re angry.”
“But do you really have to marry a complete stranger just to get back at us?”
“Do you even know who he is? What his parents do?”
“You know nothing, and you’re already with him?!”
I laughed bitterly.
“Wasn’t it you who came up with the idea to swap grooms?”
“So why are you upset now that I’ve swapped them for real?”
I didn’t bother with them anymore. I took Luca’s hand and left.
But my father suddenly spoke up.
“If you walk out that door, don’t bother coming back!”
I paused. I heard Isabella whisper.
“Did I really do something wrong?”
“If I hadn’t been so selfish, Ava wouldn’t be fighting with you all.”
My mother wrapped an arm around her and said softly,
“It’s fine. She wouldn’t dare actually leave.”
I walked away without looking back, laughing at myself for being so stupid. Even now, I was still clinging to some foolish hope.
Marco moved to follow, but Isabella suddenly fainted behind him.
He hesitated for three seconds—then turned and rushed to scoop her up.
The whole farce ended with Isabella being rushed to the hospital.
I didn’t go. Instead, I went back to Marco’s and my apartment.
One, to change out of my wedding dress.
Two, because all my luggage had been packed and delivered there days before.
Since I hadn’t even opened it, it was ready to go.
Sitting in the car with my suitcases, I finally calmed down. I turned to Luca.
“We weren’t in our right minds when we got the license.”
“If you regret it, we can go get a divorce right now.”
Luca’s eyes went wide. He clutched the marriage license in his pocket even tighter.
“You’re just going to use me and throw me away?”
He hesitated, then reluctantly took out the license.
But when I actually reached for it, he suddenly started yelling.
“Give me a year. If after a year you still don’t like me, then we’ll get divorced, okay?”
When I stayed unmoved, he kept trying to convince me.
“Think about it.”
“What if Marco finds out you’re divorced and comes bothering you again?”
“I can sign a divorce agreement in advance! You can leave whenever you want!”
I thought it over and agreed.
Since I didn’t have time to find a place, Luca suggested I move into his house. His reasons were sound.
“It’s only a year. How can we build a relationship if we don’t live together?”
“Besides, rent is expensive out there.”
“And if Mom finds out we’re married but not living together, she’ll think I’m lying to her.”
On the way back, he stopped at a mall.
When he saw my confused look, he explained.
“I said I’d get you a ring that actually fits.”
I was stunned.
“You don’t have to. The one I have is fine.”
“It’s not the same. My mom picked that one.”
Luca was stubborn. In the end, he got me a ring that fit properly.
As we were leaving the jewelry store, I accidentally mistook a stranger for Luca.
He suddenly spoke up.
“What do you think—should I dye my hair?”
